Demystifying Airtightness
The airtightness target of 0.6 ACH is key to the energy efficiency, comfort and quality of a Passivhaus building. Airtight construction improves comfort, reduces heat loss, and protects the building’s fabric.
Airtightness is often considered to be the highest risk aspect of achieving Passivhaus certification, because it’s seen as extremely hard to do. But the difficulty is mainly due to a lack of knowledge and expertise in the UK construction industry.
The Passivhaus Trust is addressing the skills gap with a new Good Practice Guide to Airtightness. This essential tool demystifies the process of achieving an airtight building, and will help all project teams successfully pass their airtightness test, through careful design, communication and detailing on site.
