Phi Architects
Phi Architects’ design philosophy is “smart” architecture, through sustainable and environmentally responsible design. Architects and Certified Passivhaus Designers, Sara Darwin set up the Phi Group with Claire Jamieson in 2012. Sara Darwin works in Stockport, Greater Manchester and Claire is based in Ripon, sharing knowledge for best practice details, construction and Passivhaus modelling.
Sara specialises in modern residential architecture to the Passivhaus standard and low carbon retrofits. Sustainable design excellence is always the priority; a fabric first approach is inherent to Phi Architects’ philosophy.
Sara also provides consultancy services, through Phi Low Carbon, with fellow Passivhaus Designer, Jeremy Poulter. Phi Low Carbon are currently involved in a number of larger residential schemes supporting other architects as specialists in this field. The AECB PHRibbon is used to calculate carbon in their designs. Thermal bridge modelling with Flixo is another service offered.
Claire works as a Passivhaus design consultant in Yorkshire, preparing PHPPs, advising on practical solutions both “on-site” and through the design phases. Having recently completed her own self build EnerPhit Passivhaus she is keen to share her knowledge and practical application through all types of renovation and new build work as a specialist in the professional team. Claire also lectures on her work, writes Passivhaus articles, and is a member of the Yorkshire Design Review Panel.
