Qualifying as a Passivhaus Consultant in 2013 since then Richard has helped architects, builders, home-owners and self-builders with Passivhaus fabric and services design for both retrofit and new-build, including his own Passivhaus design/self-build. Previously Richard was an electrical and MVHR designer/installer so he has a wide theoretical and practical knowledge of what is needed to build a Passivhaus; and also the many pitfalls of designing and physically building or retrofitting your own house!

Richard completed the AECB Carbonlite Retrofit course in 2016 and since then has been involved in the design of several light and deep retrofit projects. He is also an AECB certifier and approved embodied carbon modeller and in 2024 he completed the AECB PAS2035 Retrofit Coordinator course.
